The Village of Fruitvale is excited to launch the Official Community Plan update, an initiative that aims to inspire you to envision the type of community you want to live in!

Let’s dream big and be bold! The project team wants to learn what you value, what’s working in your community, and what needs improvement.

Your feedback will help set the vision and guiding principles for the Village’s Official
Community Plan.

This update includes refreshing the Village’s two major planning documents: the Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw.

Round 2 engagement on the Official Community Plan & Zoning Bylaw update is underway. Join us to review the draft directions shaped by your feedback.

Thank you, Fruitvale, for making Round 1 of engagement such a success.
This summer, more than 240 people took part in shaping the update to Fruitvale’s Official Community Plan (OCP) and Zoning Bylaw, through pop-up conversations at Ruala Café, Cake Betty, and the Fruitvale Pub, dedicated workshops with the Steering Committee and Village Council and staff, the Library’s Vision Tree, and a community survey that drew 75 responses. That’s engagement from roughly 12% of Fruitvale’s population, and it’s already shaping the plan.

What We Heard From You
Six themes we identified as key topics from the outset of the project. Feedback on each was heard repeatedly throughout Round 1, along with two more topics that emerged from community conversations.

Themes included:                      • Housing: a wider mix of housing types, and the importance of determining a path forward for the former middle school site
• Transportation & Getting Around: safer walking and biking routes, and better transit connections
• Community Character & Identity: protecting Fruitvale’s small-town, rural feel as the village changes over time
• Parks, Trails & Outdoor Recreation: expanding the trail network and adding new amenities
• Local Economy & Main Street: more restaurants and shops, and support for local business
• Municipal Services & Infrastructure: keeping water, sewer, and taxes ahead of growth
• Taxes & Affordability: the most frequently mentioned concern in the community survey’s open-ended responses
• Community Voice & Governance: a desire for more responsive Village communication and decision-making.

In addition to our open house, a community survey will be available for you to provide feedback. Access the survey from September 22 – October 6 online or pick up a paper copy at the village office or library.
