Community Facilities

Banquet Facilities
The Fruitvale Memorial Centre, the most modern facility in the West Kootenays, has a capacity of 300. With its modern kitchen, bar, sound system, handicap elevator and more, it’s the perfect place to hold your special event.

If a smaller room is what you need, the Club Room, located on the lower floor of the Fruitvale Memorial Centre, has a comfortable seating capacity of 60 and also has a modern kitchen.

Garbage Disposal
Residential garbage collection is done by the Public Works Department. Business and residential garbage is collected over two days (Tuesday and Wednesday) every week. Residential garbage must be placed in authorized Village of Fruitvale garbage bags in order to be collected. These bags must be purchased at the Village of Fruitvale office, and are only available to Village of Fruitvale residents. Garbage placed in ordinary garbage bags will not be picked up.

Curbside Recycling
Blue Box curbside recycling collection is done over two days (Thursday and Friday) every other week and is collected by Alpine Disposals. This is an R.D.K.B. function.

Water System
Direct supply from Fruitvale and Kelly Creeks. Storage capacity of Fruitvale Tank is 1,091,040 litres (240,000 gallons), Mill Road Balancing Tank holds 454,600 litres (100,000 gallons), Kelly Creek reservoir holds 2,727,600 litres (600,000 gallons) and the water treatment plant holds 2,727,600 litres (600,000 gallons) for a total storage capacity of 7,000,840 litres (1,540,000 gallons). The western section of Fruitvale is serviced by the Beaver Falls Waterworks District. Water is treated with a series of sand filtration and ultra violet system then minimal chlorine is added to the water.

History

Fruitvale was originally named Beaver Siding because it was a railway stop for the great Northern Railroad. In 1906, Fruitvale Limited purchased a great deal of land on both sides of this stop and changed the name to Fruitvale.

Fruitvale was incorporated as a Village on November 4, 1952.

Today, Fruitvale is mainly a residential area for the employees working in the industries located in and around the area. However, in the downtown core, there are some great stores that will surprise and delight visitors. We have full service amenities such as, a grocery store, a pharmacy, a medical clinic, dental clinics, veterinary services, gas stations, auto services, a post office, cafes and places to eat, BC liquor store, and a “real” Country store with feed and gifts.
